A specialist is a veterinarian that has chosen to extend and focus their education and experience on one discipline of medicine, such as surgery or internal medicine. They are board certified, which means they have passed extensive certification testing within their specialty. Board-certified specialists use the most innovative techniques, high-tech equipment, and the latest pharmaceuticals available to diagnose and treat your pet’s specific condition. There are a limited number of specialists in many parts of the country; therefore, we are fortunate to be able to provide such specialized services to pets and their families throughout the Midwest.
The referral process mirrors that of human medicine. Your veterinarian referred you to a specialist because they believe your pet could benefit from the advanced medical treatments and technologies specialists can provide.
Your veterinarian will advise you that your pet needs advanced medical care. They will contact us to discuss your pet’s needs and give you a referral form to bring to your appointment.
The doctors and staff at MidWestVET work closely with the veterinarian who referred you. We will be in contact with your veterinarian to keep him or her apprised of your pet’s condition and to discuss follow-up treatment.
Our staff will work with your veterinarian to gather all of your pet’s pertinent medical information before your visit.
A physical examination will be conducted during your appointment, and if deemed necessary to make a diagnosis, additional tests may be recommended. The MidWestVET specialist will then discuss with you the diagnosis, treatment options, prescribed course of treatment, the associated risks, and estimated costs. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about any aspect of your pet’s care.
You can also expect your pet to receive a lot of love while in our care. We recognize visiting the specialist may be a bit unsettling for you as well as an unfamiliar environment for your pet, so we do everything we can do make both your and your pet’s experience as smooth as possible.
MidWestVET requires that the initial consultation and examination fee be paid at the time of your visit. For those patients who undergo a procedure, 60% of the estimated treatment cost will be due at this first appointment as well, with the remaining balance payable at the time of discharge. We accept personal checks, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover. If you have questions regarding our payment policy prior to your visit, please do not hesitate to call us at 402.614.9000.
We do. As with all pet insurance policies, you pay MidWestVET and get reimbursed by the insurance company that holds your pet’s policy. We will complete your paperwork and supply you with invoices regarding your pet’s visit so that you have all of the documents needed to help expedite reimbursement.
