Dr. Byers, These are pictures of Danny on day 8. I thought for sure he wasn't going to make it thru this evening. Day 9 he acted like nothing had ever happened. Unbelievable transformation to say the least!! We can't thank you and your staff enough. I own my own global business, and I have yet to see service, and care, like the kind we have received out of you, Molly, and your staff!! Unprecedented!

Best,
CC

Casey

It was a dog lover's worst nightmare. We adopted a lab mix puppy from Midwest to Animal Rescue and brought them home as a companion to our five-year-old Labrador Retriever, Chance. One Friday, we noticed that the puppy, named Casey, was very lethargic and we brought him to Val Verde veterinary clinic. The veterinarian told us that Casey had a very low amount of red blood cells in his blood; his blood volume was down to approximately 12%, when it should be around 35 to 45%. Casey had a case of hemolytic anemia, an autoimmune disease where the body actually starts destroying its own red blood cells. Our vet and later the emergency veterinary clinic treated our dog by providing some medication and blood transfusions. The veterinarian at the emergency center said that Casey's blood volume was down to 6% and further said she didn't understand how he was alive because his blood volume was so low. The same veterinarian suggested we take Casey over to MidWest Veterinary Specialty Hospital because Dr. Byers at this clinic had worked miracles with dogs with Casey's problem.

Dr. Byers did work miracles. He is a specialist in dealing with hemolytic anemia because one of his own dogs has a similar problem and we were able to benefit from his expertise in this area. He successfully has treated Casey and he's a healthy and happy dog. I and my wife would personally like to thank everyone at MidWest Veterinary Specialty Hospital, Dr. Byers and his staff have treated us with a great deal of professionalism and empathy. The bright little light of Casey continues to shine."

Thor

We want to thank you so much for taking very good care of our Chihuahua, Thor! He did not have a very good life starting out. His mother died right after he was born, so he had to go on a substitute formula and the man we bought him from let him get covered with ring worm, which took about 6 months to be completely rid of.

Anyway, on June 23rd, a blue car ran over Thor and the automobile just kept going. I went out to the street to get him and he could not move. There was no blood, but he was in shock!

I took him to the closest vet in Lincoln. They got him out of shock, took an x-ray to find he did not have any broken bones, and had us take him to an emergency vet clinic overnight until I could take him to my regular vet. He was home for about a week when he started going downhill fast! So I took him once again to see the vet, where he decided that he needed to see a specialist, which is why we brought him to your hospital. That is when we found out he had gone over a week with his bladder disconnected from his urethra and was internally poisoning himself.

You kept us up to date everyday and let us call in to check on him, besides letting us come and see him when we wanted to. Thank you for taking the 4th of July holiday to operate and give him blood transfusions when he was even too sick to operate on!

He is a very sweet dog and has been a joy to us ever since we got him! Again, thank you so much for giving him his miracle of life back! His fur is growing back in and he has finally gained his weight back. He is doing really well and is a very happy dog, again!

Sincerely,

Tom and Merry Hoppes

quote.jpgOur little dog Max had 2 surgeries and an extended recovery due to a ruptured cervical disc.  He was unable to walk or sit when he came to you and was in severe pain.  Everyone at MidWestVET was wonderful.  Today you would never know how sick Max was by looking at him. The doctors and staff are great!

quote.jpgI would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for your care and kindness. I certainly appreciate having Dr. Thoesen in Omaha. When it happened, I cried thinking of the idea that Ginger might not walk again or that I might have to put her to sleep. Thank God surgery was a complete success, and Ginger went from being in severe pain and unable to stay up even to pee, to almost back to normal and we are only three months removed from her surgery. Now if I can only control myself and stop spoiling her with tons of treats. :)”

Kira

quote.jpg"Our dog Kira went to the Emergency Clinic on Dec 8, 2009 with a degloved right front paw.  Over the next 10 days her leg was amputated and she developed DIC.  I have no doubt that the excellent care she received at MidWestVET after her accident and after the amputation is the reason she is still with us today.  We cannot thank you enough for saving her life."

quote.jpgThank you so much for all you did for Lulu Roland.  You all took such good care of her and you have given her many more years of good life.  To the Doc and everyone, you made us feel special.  When we came back for check ups Lulu was so happy to see you all, you know that is good care when your dog is happy to see everyone.  All I can say is thank you so much for all the great care you gave my baby.  She is doing great.  Thank you so much. You all are great.”

quote.jpgTHANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU to Dr. Thoesen, Molly, and your wonderful staff.  On November 21st, 2010, both of our dogs were shot on our land by roadside hunters. Luckily, they both made it home, alive! We took them to our local vet, Dr. Lynn Guthmiller, who was amazing. He stabilized them and referred us on to MidWestVET. Hunter was shot in the chest and Bo was shot in the jaw, shattering it and destroying his tongue. We were not sure if they would make it through all of the trauma they sustained. This was very hard on our family, but your team took WONDERFUL care of our boys! Dr. Thoesen reassured us every step of the way that we would get through this and they would heal and come home, but we had to take one step at a time. They have come a long way and there are not enough words to express our appreciation for all you have done for our boys and our family! Here is a photo of them today with our kids!

Success Stories

Suger Eckley

suger.jpgSuger was presented to MidWestVET on 11/29/10 after she had been hit by a car the night before. She could not walk or get up on her own; her initial examination revealed swelling over the right shoulder and crepitus on the left and right side of the pelvis. Radiographs were taken and they showed that she had a fractured pelvis in many areas, a fracture of her scapula, and a dislocated tail. Dr. Thoesen started her on pain management and presented a plan for surgery the next day.

On 11/30/10, Suger was anesthetized for her surgery. Her pelvis was repaired with multiple bone plates and screws. The surgery went smoothly and she recovered from anesthesia beautifully. Suger’s pain level was managed through her stay with us, and with many visits from her concerned owners, she continued to improve during her stay. She was discharged to her owners care on 12/3/10, just six days after her accident.

Suger returned to MidWestVET on 12/15/10 for a recheck and suture removal. She was improving and could walk well when supported with a sling. She was released again with strict confinement instructions and a lot of TLC.

Suger’s last visit to MidWestVET was on 1/26/11 for a recheck evaluation and radiographs. Suger charged into the clinic on her own accord and greeted everyone with a wag and a trot. After her evaluation, she was given a clean bill of health showing her fractures were healing well and she could return to normal activity slowly. Through this ordeal it was the spirit of an amazing dog, the expertise and compassion of MidWestVET, and the dedication of her owners that combined to have an amazing outcome for this little dog.
